Okutoyi is using the tournament in Canada as her final preparation before taking part in the US Open.
Kenya’s 18-year-old tennis history maker Angella Okutoyi was bundled out of the J1 Repentigny tournament currently taking place in Canada as she succumbed to a 7-6, 6-4 defeat against Slovakia’s Ela Nala Milic in the second round of the competition.
After receiving a bye in the first round, Okutoyi, who was the 12th seed in the tourney, was looking forward to making it to the third round when she faced Milic who set up the clash after whitewashing Canada’s Dylan Gelber 6-0, 6-1 in the opener.

It was however not to be for Okutoyi as Milic won a tough first set that had to be decided via a tiebreaker (7-4). Milic then sealed the win with the 6-4 win in the second set to ensure her progression to the third round.
Despite being knocked out in the Singles, Okutoyi still has another bite of the cherry as she qualified for the Doubles quarterfinals alongside her Polish partner Mawina Rowinska.
The duo, who are seeded sixth, dispatched Canadian pair b and b in an impressive 6-4, 6-2 straight set performance that ensured they progressed to the last eight of the tournament.
The two are set to come up against top seeded Slovakians Irina Balus and Nikola Daubnerova.
Okutoyi is using the tournament in Canada as her final preparation before she participates in the 2022 US open Junior Championship taking place from 4-11 September.
Back in July 2022, Okutoyi went down the history books when she lifted the Wimbledon Girls' Doubles title to become the first ever Kenyan player to win in any Grand Slam Tournament alongside Netherlands’ Rose Marie Nijkamp.
